About Give Big Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh Magazine’s Give Big Pittsburgh will raise money for local nonprofits through a single online donation platform, providing a simple way to connect donors to the charitable causes they care about most. This 24-hour online fundraising effort, hosted by Pittsburgh Magazine and local sponsors, offers nonprofits the chance to raise funds to support their critical missions.
Support Pittsburgh Girls Choir!
Pittsburgh Girls Choir is delighted to return to live performance for a holiday concert with harpist Nuiko Wadden, featuring Benjamin Britten’s beloved “A Ceremony of Carols” (Op. 28). Beautifully suited to the warmth and purity of young women’s voices, Ceremony of Carols sets to music eleven early English and Latin poems, including Wolcum Yole (“Welcome, Yule”), There is no rose and Hodie Christus natus est.
Britten composed Ceremony of Carols in the dark days of the Second World War as an expression of hope and belief in a better future. Originally written for children’s choir, he conceived of the piece literally as the voice of that future.
There have been some darks days lately – but like Britten himself, Pittsburgh Girls Choir believes in a bright future. We believe, like Britten, that music is hope. We believe that music education enriches students’ lives, now and in later life.
We believe that everyone should have that opportunity, and our tuition is adjusted according to household income so that every girl who wants to sing with us can join us, whatever her family resources. That isn’t an easy commitment for a small arts education program, but it is our commitment.
Please help us hold the door open.
