Girlchoirs for Ages 6 – 18

Melodia

Our level 1, non-auditioned training choir for girls in 1st – 3rd grades.  Choristers develop healthy vocal skills and are given a foundation in musical literacy through the use of children’s choral repertoire, multi-cultural folk songs, games and dances.

  • Meets Tuesdays 4:30-5:45 pm at Shadyside Presbyterian Church from mid-September through mid-May
  • Girls learn through movement and play
  • Performances include:
    • Holiday concert in December.
    • Training choir concert in May

Harmonia

Our level 2 girlchoir for students in 3rd – 6th grades.   Students grow in their knowledge of musical literacy, and healthy vocal production.  Choristers learn to sing two-part repertoire in several languages.

  • Meets Tuesdays 6:00-7:45 pm at Shadyside Presbyterian Church from mid-September through mid-May
  • Musical literacy and understanding of musical concepts is taught through singing games and dances
  • In addition to weekly rehearsals, choristers attend a full day retreat in the winter.
  • Performances include:
    • Sing for Service, a community service day
    • Holiday concert (along with Via, Concentio and Chamber Choir):  December
    • Training choir concert: May

Via

Our Level 3 training choir for girls in 5th – 9th grades. Choristers perform two and three -part repertoire in several languages and develop advanced sight-singing skills. In Via, choristers prepare to give their first solo concert which they perform in Pittsburgh and throughout the region on a 2 – 3 day mini-tour.

  • Meets Tuesdays 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Shadyside Presbyterian Church from mid- September through late May
  • Musical literacy and understanding of musical concepts is taught through age-appropriate singing games and dances
  • In addition to weekly rehearsals, choristers attend a weekend retreat in January
  • Performances include:
    • Sing for Service, a community service day
    • Holiday concert (along with Via, Concentio and Chamber Choir): December
    • Training choir concert: May
    • Via Concert
    • Weekend tour following the Via Concert

Concentio 

Concentio is an advanced choir for girls in 7th – 12th grades. Members must have either graduated from Via or equivalent choral background. Choristers must demonstrate a high level of vocal and sight singing skill. Concentio performs advanced sacred and secular repertoire with three to six-parts in multiple languages and styles.

  • Must attend required day camp the 1st full week in August
  • Weekly rehearsals are on Friday from 4:10 – 6:30 from September – May
  • Monthly rehearsals on Saturdays from 10:00 – 2:00
  • In addition to regular rehearsals, choristers attend a weekend retreat in January
  • Performances include:
    • Sing for Service, a community service day
    • Holiday concert: in December
    • April Concert

Chamber Choir

Chamber Choir is our most advanced choir of PGC. Membership is by invitation only and offers musically experienced members of Concentio the opportunity to make an extraordinary commitment to choral singing.

  • Must belong to Concentio and fulfill all obligations of Concentio
  • Mondays from 7:00 – 9:00 (September – May)
    Fridays from 4:10 – 6:30 (September – May)
  • Monthly Saturday rehearsals September – February
  • Performances include:
    • All performances of Concentio
    • Additional collaborative concerts
    • May concert
    • Mid-June Tour
